How to Order Heating Oil Online, Step by Step
From the Alcus family · Alcus Fuel Oil & Sons, Amityville · Updated October 31, 2026
Ordering heating oil online takes about two minutes: enter your ZIP, choose gallons or "fill my tank", add your delivery details, and pay by card or choose cash on delivery. No contract, no account required, and our minimum delivery is just 25 gallons.
Here's each step on our order page, plus what happens after you click "Place order."
Before you start: check your tank
Go look at the gauge on top of your oil tank. It's a float in a little glass or plastic dome, marked F, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 and E. The order form asks for it, and it helps us plan your delivery. Not sure how to read it? See how to read an oil tank gauge.
It also helps to know your tank size. Most Long Island basements have a 275-gallon tank, and some homes have a 330, a 550 or two tanks. If you don't know, choose "Not sure" and the driver will check.
Step 1: Your ZIP code and how much oil
- ZIP code. Enter the ZIP where the oil goes. That's how we show today's price for your address and check that we deliver there. If your ZIP isn't on our list, you can still order and we'll confirm.
- How soon. Choose regular delivery or "I'm out / urgent." There's no rush fee. Night emergency deliveries carry a $95 emergency fee, and we'll confirm before we come.
- Gallons or "fill my tank." Pick a number of gallons (from 25 up) or let us fill it. Deliveries under 100 gallons cost a little more per gallon. Not sure how much you need? Try the heating oil calculator.
Step 2: Delivery details
Enter your name, mobile phone, email for the receipt, and the delivery address. Then add the things that help the driver:
- Fill location. If you have an account, your saved fill-pipe location comes along automatically. If the driver needs to do something different just this once (a blocked driveway, say), there's a box for that.
- Preferred date and time of day. Delivery dates are targets. Weather, demand or truck routing can shift a delivery by a day or so, and we'll let you know if it changes. Most orders are delivered within a day or two, depending on the time ordered and the weather.
- Notes for the driver. Gate codes, dogs in the yard, which driveway to use.
Please make sure the fill pipe is reachable: no snow piled on it, no locked gate without a code.
Step 3: Choose how to pay
- Card online. Credit, debit and prepaid cards pay the posted price. Your card is authorized when you order and charged only for the gallons delivered, after delivery. Until then you'll see a pending authorization, not a charge.
- Cash on delivery (COD). Pay the driver in cash and save 20¢ on every gallon.
- Card over the phone. Prefer not to type your card online? Choose to have us call you, and we'll take it by phone.

Step 4: Review and place your order
You'll see everything on one screen: gallons, price, date, address and payment. Check it, agree to the order terms, and press Place order. Need to change something? Press "Edit order."
What happens next
- You get a confirmation on screen, and a receipt by email if you gave one.
- We text or call to confirm your delivery.
- The driver fills your tank. With a card, you're charged for the actual gallons delivered. With COD, you pay the driver.
- If your tank was empty, your burner may need to be reset. See ran out of oil? what to do.

Questions
Can I order heating oil online without an account?
Yes. You can order as a guest. A free account just saves your address, fill-pipe location and equipment for next time.
Do I have to pay online?
No. You can pay by card online, or choose cash on delivery and pay the driver (cash saves 20¢ a gallon). You can also call and pay by card over the phone.
What does "fill my tank" cost?
You pay only for the gallons actually delivered. With a card, we place a temporary authorization for up to 300 gallons, then charge only what went in the tank after delivery.
What if I am out of oil right now?
Call 631-264-8800. Phone calls get priority when it's busy. You can still order online and mark it urgent, but calling is the fastest way.
